My Favorite Pixies Album

"This was the first Pixies album I bought, on tape, and although it's generally not seen as their best work, it has always been my favorite (although here comes your man must be my favorite track of them). This is possibly due to the good memories attached, but I just listened to it today, and it's still an incredible album, every bit as good as it was. There's too much music out there to want to rate it all or put it into lists, but a bunch of artists and a bunch of albums will remain out there for me as the very best. Pixies could be my favorite band, is certainly one of them, and I like that all their albums sound differently.

When I got the album on tape, I was immediately blown away by Side A. I thought the part from 'Trompe Le Monde' to 'Palace of the Brine' was absolutely perfect. Pure energy, and I liked the bad attitude from Planet of Sound. All those songs, they're also so much fun to sing along with. University of Massachussetts, please, Jeffrey with one f, all carved in my head. The guitars sound great, Black Francis sounds as if he is right where he should be, and although Kim Deal doesn't sing as much as I would want her to, when she does, she rocks my world (palace of the brine, she just has to sing those words for people to know that she was the sexiest rock had to offer at the time). Motorway to Roswell is one of the most beautiful songs they've done, and it puts tears in my eyes every time I hear it. Didn't know I could be moved because of UFOs.

Recognize greatness

"I always recall the now (somewhat) famous quote, "I never could get over the fact that The Pixies formed, worked and separated without America taking them to its heart or even recognizing their existence for the most part" by David Bowie. But many years latter many more Americans have taken them to heart for sure. The Pixies have made their mark and will go down in the history of rock 'n' roll as one of the best, most influential bands of all time. This is obvious now. I'm being a dork now, but another British guy talking about Americans said, "Americans will always do the right thing, after they have exhausted all the alternatives" and that imperialist swine was talkin' about war, but in this context Americans exhausted with their "alternative" music have increasingly grown aware of one of the (for better or worse) truly original sources of that music so labeled as "alternative". But whatever. I HATED that b.s. label anyways. Point is the Pixies rock. Breathed fresh air into rock 'n' roll they did! In the late 80s they were an alternative and those with ears to hear paid attention (Kurt Cobain, most famous ex.). In any case Pixies albums sound as vital and rocking as it did so many years ago when it was first recorded. "Trompe le Monde" has more and more been appreciated over the years, as had the rest of the band's incredible sounds. Love it. So I'm saying you should buy it, is the humble point of this review."
