CD ReviewsTexas Fields & Strings PHILIP S WOLF | SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA. USA | 05/30/2007 (4 out of 5 stars) "This is the second CD release of the 'Nineties' Edition of Plainsong. Two years after "Dark Side of the Room", Iain Matthews, Andy Roberts, Mark Griffiths and Julian Dawson Recorded this fine Bunch of songs in Austin, Texas during January 1994.
All the Key Elements of Plainsong are right here on "Voices Electric", Great Acoustic Music with Extra Nice Vocal harmonies thrown in as well. The Opener "Gravy Train" sets the tone of the Disk with a brisk tempo and Bright Mandolins, this one was Penned by Julian Dawson who also sings Lead here, Julian's voice is Unique like Andy Robert's Singing that's the Key to the Greatness of this Band of Pirates...Nobody Else Sounds like this. Iain contibutes: "Unreal Dreams", "Where the Coyotes Roam", "Voices" and "Christoforo's Eyes" and of these Tunes only "Voices" has been featured Elsewhere. Covers of Richard Thompson (Galway to Graceland), Mark Germino (Rat & the Snake) and the Byrd's Gene Parsons (Gunga Din) are handled with Care and Style. The trademark Harmonies are Everywhere over the Span of this CD, and the Instruments Spakle as Well. If you were only allowed one Word to decribe the Music of Plainsong it would be "Perfection". This is an Excellent Disk.... FOUR STARS" |
