"Besides the old classic recordings by the Busch Quartet we are lucky to have these sonata recordings of Adolf Busch with his son-in-law Rudolf Serkin at the piano. Sound quality is poor (there is some significant hissing as well as other noises) but these are performances of such power and nobility that it really doesn't matter. Violinists simply don't play like this anymore, with such a combination of individuality, passion and intellectual rigor. Serkin is, of course a wonderful partner to Busch, although the balence definately favors the violin since Busch would have been closer to the single, antiquated microphone."
