CD ReviewsBoys & Girls, Poison Girls Stanley C. Sargent | San Francisco, CA | 04/01/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "The Poison Girls have been rocking and speaking their minds since 1977 in the UK and in the US. The lead singer Vi Subversa, now 65 years old, knocks out incredibly emotional vocals that on occasion remind one of the heroin-on-the-rocks warblings of Marianne Faithfull, but Vi is even better. The group's insightful lyrics make comment on love, isolation, people's ill use of others (and why we allow it), political/economic systems that lay waste to their own populations, and mundane life in general. In "Cry No More," for instance, Vi declares she's so exhausted after crying for a multitude of worthy causes, including America in general, that now she can only cry for herself. Eight of the songs are studio-recorded, four are excellent/clearly-recorded "live" versions of popular Poison Girl songs.GREAT stuff. Listen carefully to the music and the lyrics. You'll love this CD's raw-edged refinery. After more than 20 years, this group's only gotten better!" A great cd Stanley C. Sargent | 09/12/1998 (5 out of 5 stars) "Poison Girls are not well known enough here in the u.s. Vi, their lead singer was quite a bit older than the punks of her era, but her music had all of the bite of any Crass song. Poison Girls never fail to make me feel empowered and wonderful. It doesn't have a lot of the aggro of their punk peers, but I believe that anyone who listens to Crass for the words will love Poison Girls. Check out Persons Unknown or Real Woman for a great punkrock rush."
