"This fantastic twofer from the folks at Collectables comprises rare albums that Polly Bergen recorded in 1959 and 1960.The first set of tracks - from the 'All Alone by the Telephone' album - includes such standards as "Too Late Now" (from the musical ROYAL WEDDING), "Spring is Here", "He Didn't Call", "By Myself", "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" (from IRENE) and "Glad to be Unhappy".The second set - from the 'Four Seasons of Love' album - includes "Canadian Sunset", "Lazy Afternoon", "April in Paris", "Autumn in New York" and "It Might as well be Spring" (from STATE FAIR).Ms Bergen's lovely, husky voice is pleasing to the ear, and fans will definately want to grab this excellent CD from this veteran performer; which is at a very nice price."
Polly may be more famous as an actress, but I love her music

"Apparently, Polly only recorded six albums before swtching to an acting career. Four of those are now available on two great CD's from Collectables. The other twofer is brilliant, but this is even better.Polly was an outstanding singer. Whether singing something familiar (like Moonlight in Vermont or Autumn leaves) or something more obscure, the quality of her song selection and her performance cannot be faulted. If you're looking for upbeat songs, you won't find them here. Polly knew what she did best (slow, romantic music) and stuck to it.I wish Polly had made more records, but she may have realised that her music wouldn't belong in the sixties. In any case, the quality is what counts - and this CD oozes quality !!!!"
