Amazon.comOn Punch Drunk, all-American goofballs Pop Defect prove that after a decade of slugging it out in the netherworld of indie rock, they've still got it. Whatever "it" is. Perhaps their most appealing quality is their complete lack of pretense: they obviously don't take themselves too seriously. They play music that's not strictly punk but pretty far from straight rock as well. It's the kind of stuff you could easily live without--but then again you're going to need something to put on at your next party. "Heaven's a Hole" is a sweet, off-kilter little ditty about going subterranean (literally!). The dirge-like "Without" explodes at the end into a manic hoe-down. --Mike Corrigan
