Synopsis
Album Description 1991?s For You And Me is one of the most beautiful albums in the last working phase of Popol Vuh. Written and recorded in the time of the first war in Iraq, the album stands as a Popol Vuh devotion to freedom in the world, more international understanding and tolerance beyond cultural differences. For You And Me is a positive celebration of world music, one which finds it?s influence constantly shifting from African, Irish, South American etc. flavours and is among the richest and most diverse in the Popol Vuh catalogue. As with past releases, Florian Fricke is again joined the unique vocal stylings of Renate Knaup-Aschauer. The bonus track is an unreleased piano version of the song OM Mani Padme Hum 3 played solo by Florian Fricke. Popol Vuh was founded by mastermind Florian Fricke in Munich in 1970 and are known as pioneers of electronic music as well as the predecessors of the 90's ambient and trance genre. Florian Fricke was one of the first German musicians who worked with a MOOG III, an instrument which created a very new and special sound which was profiled on Affenstunde. This album quickly became a milestone and practically created a whole new genre. The name and the book Popol Vuh stems from Incan mythology and is the memory of the evolution of humanity. Florian Fricke doesn't like to catagorize his music; "Music is a form of law for me." He died on December 29, 2001 in Munich. Kraut Rock at the highest level made by, and for music fans! All Popol Vuh re-releases are manufactured as high quality collector's series with stickers indicating the bonus tracks. The Digipak spines have a design and when all are put together they form one big picture. Similar CDs |
CD ReviewsVery nice little album druidsquirrel | A Hollow Tree | 10/17/2001 (4 out of 5 stars) "Over the years Popol Vuh have released a number of powerful, groundbreaking albums. For You & Me is not one of them, but it is nevertheless a very nice if somewhat conventional new age album. The compositions and performances are uniformly excellent, but what really sets this album apart from the banal new age mainstream is the authentic Popul Vuh spirituality that permeates every track." Real Instruments, Her Voice, An Ascent ..... J. Lyda | Raleigh, North Carolina | 10/24/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "How to describe? I've had this CD 8-9 years. It is always a treat to listen to, always an inspiration. Popul Vuh's long histroy of making music with the intention of evoking the spiritual shines thru. No fancy electronics, no drones (much as I like that), no trip to the stars. Just solid, well constructed music with beautiful instruments and a beautiful woman's voice. Track 5, "When Love is Calling You" starts as a light piece, and ends with that dramatic, timeless Popul Vuh sound. The lyrics still say something profound to me: "When love is calling you, turn around and follow." Track 10, "Om Mani Padme Hum 4" may be the single most beautiful song in my experience. Starting with majestic piano chords, the song builds into a crescendo of emotion which reaches a release through a repitition of the title by the most pure and strong woman's voice I will ever hear. No matter how many times I have played this song, I still find myself surprised and moved as it unfolds. I can feel the goose bumps now....truly a divine moment."
