"After becoming an icon of alternative rock with Jane's Addiction and Lolapalooza, most fans ignored Perry Farrell's followup work with Porno For Pyros. Which is a bit odd, since "Good God's Urge" finds Farrell at his most relaxed and experimental, having a good time cooking up new sounds, composing pleasing melodies and enjoying the Tahitian sun. Although nothing on the album scales the emotionally dramatic heights of the best Janes material, "Good God's Urge" proves that Farrell has honed his songwriting skills to create tasty psych-pop that is weird and catchy at the same time (check out "100 Ways" or "Wishing Well"). The album has a predominantly acoustic tone which might upset some fans, although the old punk-metal Perry pops up on "Dogs Rule The Night", "Tahitian Moon" and the title track. As an overall statement, it is the peak of Porno's short-lived output; the artwork and liner notes are exquisite. As so few musicians these days actually want to create *art* in their music, let's hear it for the few who do."

"This album is not has hardcore as their first album, but for anyone who likes Jane's Addiction's slow stuff like Jane Says and Pets and such, this is a great album. Each song is its own individual experience, there is a song for everyone. THE album in a whole will leave you with a serene zenful experience. I have even fallen asleep to it because it is so hypnotizing. Even the lyrics are great. Buy this album, its a TRIP in a Cd Case!"

"1. PORPOISE HEAD is one of the trippiest songs I've heard in a while. 2. 100 WAYS is an awesome mellow/trippy love song. 3. TAHITAN MOON is a great a$$ kickin' song, awesome video. 4. KIMBERLY AUSTIN another awesome mellow love song. 5. THICK OF IT ALL is kinda like porpoise head, mellow trippy with a slightly harder edge. 6. Good God's://URGE the album title, is an awesome two-tone song about Perry's father, starts mellow then gets into the a$$ kickin' sound. 7. WISHING WELL is a trippy hard rocker, kinda with a dark/somber tone. 8. Dogs rule the night is a great song with awesome trippy sound effex. 9. FREEWAY is one of my faves. it has an off beat bassline and a great sound altogether, Flea from RHCP plays bass on this particular song. 10. BALI EYES is my favorite P4P song. It is an amazing album-closer...mellow, shroom song. almost acoustic with those awesome sound effects Perry et al produce The whole album 'sounds' the way it looks. with the dark brown fonts and painting/pictures, the album cover, song titles, give this cd that 'islands' sound...Bali sound. One of the first albums I've listened to from track 1 to 10, and quickly fell in love with. Good God's Urge is one of my fave. 90's albums. Good with wine (or whatever else) REV is also a great cd as it has Perry's solo songs (2), Jane's Addiction songs and P4P's including Hard Charger and Satelite of Love both used for movie soundtracks......."

"This album is brilliant. Yes, it's that simple. Highlights include tracks 5 and 10. They're the more mellow tunes. The rest is also pure brilliance though and shows a diverse range of musical genres and performance levels throughout. I'd also go as far to say that the feel of this album is quite surreal. There's twists and turns and up and downs that will always surprise with each listen. It's like a tripped out roller-coaster ride that you'll rarely tire of.
Lastly, I reckon this album is far more musical than anything I've heard from Farrell's previous projects (e.g. compared to earlier tracks from Jane's Addiction). Thus, a person who appreciates more instrumental pieces, the usual chilling and sweet vocals from Perry, and experimental beats won't be disappointed with this album. Just forget about expecting coarse rock guitar and drums though. And yes that's a good thing. Turn it up!"
