Album Description
Beneath the subsonic bass of producer Bill Laswell, the funk -laden beats of drummer Brain, the extreme guitar terror of mutant virtuoso Buckethead and the deftly rendered scratching of guest DJ's DXT, Mixmaster Mike and Disk, Praxis represents an inspiring, at times mesmerizing and even harrowing foray into the collective mind of a lethally futuristic live unit. CD Reviews

Praxis live on stage is an experience
Matthew Arieta | Dallas, TX USA | 12/19/2001

"This is a different crew than Mutatis Mutandi -- the album that Praxis is perhaps best known for. DXT, Mix Master Mike, and Disk replace Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worell, and AF NMF. Bill Laswell (of course), Buckethead, and Brain are all along for the ride too. After listening to this CD I said to myself, "Damn! Poland got one hell of a show." Praxis live will alter your nervous system forever, and that comes through on this CD. Once again Bill Laswell's demonstrates his genius by finding and fusing together master musicians from all walks. This album is turntable-heavy. Mix Master Mike -- who you may know from some of his work with Beastie Boys -- lays down a couple phenomenal sets. Brain and Buckethead were born to jam together. For classic Praxis pick up Mutatis Mutandis, for some of the best cosmic industrial funk shred get your hands on Sacrifist, and to wet your mouth for Praxis live, definitely check this one out."

"Pluses: Great opportunity to listen to a CD that most would not normally be able to (originally available as an insert in an obscure Polish music magazine) plus actual separation of the 5 main tracks on the CDMinuses: I liked the original edit better (this one, for instance, edited out some great lyrics from the samples at the beginning).Overall: A great live CD from an incredibly intense band. Even though it was recorded a number of years ago, it's still quite current. It includes some good scratch stuff and several "classic" Praxis tunes. If you're NOT into Top 40, this CD is for you!"
Interesting but not essential

"Warszawa is the second live release from Praxis, yet not one that represents the band very accurately. To correct a couple of the other reviews, this is NOT techno music. Warszawa is comprised largely of DJ/scratch music, and it also does NOT feature any of the "classic" Praxis tunes at all. The personnel on this album consists of Mix Master Mike, Phonopsychograph Disk, Bill Laswell, Buckethead, and Brain. The two DJ's are not featured on any of the Praxis studio albums.

Initiation, the first track(and nearly half of the album),is a 20+ minute DJ solo. Bill and Brain trickle in towards the final minutes to throw in their two cents. Unless you really like DJ scratching, this is a pretty dull listen. The following tracks are strictly jam tunes also with a heavy DJ element. Buckethead really kills on Saturn with a blistering solo, and his other contributions really add some spice to an otherwise disappointing recording. Warszawa cashes in at a little over 44 minutes.

Having said that, I will say the the production of this CD is incredible. Everything sounds great, the bass hits, the beats are groovy, it sounds amazing. I recommend Warszawa only for a completist or a fan of the DJ genre. The perfrmance is good, but it's just not the Praxis we know and love."
