CD Reviews

Great Way For U.S. Listeners To Hear Earlier Songs
Donovan Smith | Denver, CO | 06/15/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The Early Years is a collection of tracks from the albums and MCDs Psychic Torture, Lam-'bras, Entities, Souls/Island, and Corps d'amoure which were never released in the U.S. It is overall an excellent CD and one of the few ways to enjoy the music off of Project Pitchfork's earlier CDs if you can't find them here in the U.S.The only real problem I have with this album is that after I purchased some of their earlier albums I found out how different those albums were and how much you are missing by not getting them. K.N.K.A. originally appeared on Dhyani, and sounds very different from the version appearing on Psychic Torture that is on The Early Years. The songs Entity, Souls, and The Abeyance on Entities are a bit rougher but still quite good compared to the versions taken off Souls/Island that are on The Early Years. If you live in the U.S. go ahead and buy The Early Years. But if you're a serious Pitchfork fan be sure to get copies of Dhyani, Lam-'bras, and Entities (an economical triple-pack is available from infrarot.de in Germany) to round out your collection."
Just another sampler

"If you want just a taste of some of the old Pitchfork stuff, then this CD is for you. It does include some important tracks such as the dancefloor hit "Conjure" from their second album Lam'Bras. However, if you want the real deal and own the first two albums, which IMHO were the best Pitchfork albums anyway, buy the Dhynai/Lam'Bras twin CD, available here at Amazon (look for the "instead" recommendation above)."
A compilation with no surprises, but a good one

"The first song I ever listened to by Project Pitchfork was 'Souls', more than 5 years ago, and I got hooked on it; it was and is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard; the I bought this compilation because it was the only cd by this band I could find in my city; since then P.Pitchfork is one of my favourite bands; This compilation has no surprises, but it exemplifies perfectly the sound of these band from 1989 to 1995 (the name is confusive 'cos there're extra songs from 1995) This band blends in their songs sweeteness and roughness with such a perfection... Almost every song here is good, and you should pay attention to the magnificent 'KNKA', 'Precious New World', 'Go Further', and especially 'Souls', 'Conjure' and 'Self-Knowledge' They're great. If you are not sure to like this band, you should start with this compilation and try. If you think you'll like them, maybe you should directly buy one of their albums: From the first stage I'd advice 'IO'; from the second, 'Eon:Eon'. And if you can, get the last cd 'Daimonion' 'cos it's also very good, it is somewhat a back to the roots;"
