This beautifully recorded CD featuring Bob Deeshan ("Captain Kangaroo") is any absolutely wonderful accomplishment. The sound is excellent. Bob Deeshan's narration is superbly done. He speaks clearly and with just the right amount of embellishment and excitement to enthrall young and old audiences. The Stadium Symphony Orchestra of New York performs flawlessly. As a clarinetist, I thoroughly enjoyed the clarinet segments.
I purchased this for my son when he was a toddler. He was transfixed the moment he heard it. No other CD - music or story - has ever satisfied him as much. Now, years later, he enjoys it on an entirely different level. Remember to listen to the second half of the CD. After hearing the first track with narration and music, it's fun to listen to the second recording sans voice narration to pick out where the orchestra is in the story. I'd recommend this hard to find, rare CD to anyone. Take it on a road trip. Turn off the DVDs and video games and turn on this classic masterpiece.

CD Reviews
My favorite version of this delightful classic D. R. Schryer | Poquoson, VA United States | 08/18/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "Peter and the Wolf -- a Russian children's story with both words and music -- is often used to introduce young people to classical music. If this is your main purpose for buying this work this is an excellent performance to choose because "Captain Kangaroo" (Bob Keeshan) did an outstanding job as the narrator. However, although this fact is often overlooked, Prokofiev's music for Peter and the Wolf is quite good and the great conductor Leopold Stokowski presents the music beautifully in this recording. This CD is unusual in that it presents two versions of this classic work, one with the well known narration and the same great performance as a purely musical work without narration. In either version this is my favorite recording of this delightful work. If you hear it, I think you may well agree with me. Please get this rare but outstanding CD while it is still available."
