"This two CD set contains highlights from Prokofiev's most popular Orchestral & Choral scores for Russian cinema. The recording quality is good, a lot of attention paid to dynamics and balance by Slatkin & The St. Louis Symphony / Chorus. This collection serves best as a low-cost overview of Prokofiev film scores, geared mainly towards an audience that wishes to gain a better understanding of the composer or Twentieth Century Russian Cantatas/Symphonies. The liner notes are highly informative, covering everything from the life of Prokofiev to the life of the characters portrayed in the music. As such, this is a great "educational" collection that covers some of the most dramatic, dark and thrilling symphonic music ever produced."
