"If you love Puccini, if you love his opera Turandot, if you love Leontyne Price, you must buy this recording immediately and begin playing it all the time. It's unbelievable how high the quality of the sound recording is too. If the clapping were edited out, one could easily mistake this for a studio recording, but it's so satisfying to know that Nilsson, Di Stefano, and Price sounded so glorious when performing live. (Nilsson's only rival at the Ice Princess is Leonie Rysanek, and she gives her competition as to who should wear the crown for best "In questa Reggia.") The supporting roles of Ping, Pang, and Pong are also well sung, and the orchestra of the Vienna Staatsoper is in quite fine fiddle. I can't believe this recording isn't better known because it really is stunning for the performances and the sound."
Turandot!...Turandot...TURANDOT!!!!!!

"This CD was backordered and I had to wait over 4 months to get it.
It was well worth the wait.
First off let's deal with the 'Live Recording'.
This was recorded in Vienna in 1961. I can't imagine it was a pirate.
The sound quality is amazing. "Stereo"! There is some "Stage Noise" an a little off balance here and there, but it is LIVE.
The Cast is steller.
Nilsson...Di Stefano...Price!!!...My God I'm Dreaming!
They all are in top form.
Birgit...If you have ever heard her LIVE you know what it was like to be blown away with the sheer power of her voice.
This gives you an idea what that was like.
Di Stefano...Though not in the prime of his career he still had the voice that could melt a rock. Pure Beauty.
And Leontyne...Where do I begin...this was recorded the year she made her MET debut. She sang this role that year also in New York along with her Debut in "Trovatore". She became an International Sensation overnight. Her "TOP" is like "Spun Gold". The control and ease she displays is awesome.
If you have never seen her LIVE, this will give you some insite into what all the FUSS was about and why years later the MET chose her to open it's new Opera House at Lincoln Center in an Opera written just for her.
Here you can hear the young soprano who would become the "Prima Dive" of the Met just a few month before she arrived there to take her throne.
MYTO Records are not Cheap. You are not going to get a poor quality DISCOUNT CD here. But listen to me..OK... This cost over $40.. It is worth every cent and I'd gladly pay much much more for this GEM. It's Rare and hard to find. Buy it from Amazon... a TREASURE from a great company."
