Synopsis

Album Description
All around the world, people know that the key to an unforgettable celebration is great music. Whether you live in Iceland or Italy, Tahiti or Timbuktu, music gets the party started and keeps it moving. Putumayo World Party is a feel-good music collection featuring some of the world's best-known dance rhythms, and is guaranteed to enliven any gathering. The collection starts with the infectious brass of Roy Paci & Aretuska's "Ciuri Ciuri. Jamaican reggae legend Burning Spear sets a light and carefree mood with "Walk," while the Denmark-based Laid Back incorporates a bit of the Caribbean into their party anthem "Groovin' on a Feeling." To the east of Jamaica is Martinique, home of Jean-Philippe Marthely who offers his party-starter "Woté Mont". The people of southwest Louisiana know how to have a good time and zydeco is their party music of choice. Beau Jocque was one of the kings of zydeco and "Just One Kiss" became an instant dance hit. Afro-pop legends Osibisa contribute 70's funk and soul to the party with "Sunshine Day," while L'Orchestre Tropicana d'Haiti provide a classic Haitian compas track. The multi-cultural Sarazino, with members from Algeria, Quebec and Ecuador, also keep up the energy with their dance track "Cochabamba." Laurent Hounsavi may have been born in Benin and studied in Paris, but his song "Mind Se" is steeped in Afro-Cuban rhythms. The Argentine-born, LA-based Los Pinguos have infused ska into their Latin rhythms and harmonizing vocals on the lively "My Love." A portion of Putumayo's proceeds from Putumayo World Party will be donated to Action Against Hunger, an international relief and development organization committed to saving the lives of malnourished children and families while providing sustainable access to safe water and long-term solutions to hunger.

"The first song in this album is marvellous, while others just so so which is really a pity. I decided to buy it when I heard the first song but gave up afterwards."
