"Many, many years ago...or once upon a time if you prefer, I was a wee lad. And I ventured forth to visit my dear brother Aire in Jackson Hole Wyoming. That lovely summer, in this unlikely place, I stumbled upon this wonderful record with it's colorful jacket. When I played it, I was absolutely taken with it. The beauty, the impressions that came from Song of Wind and Molten Glass. The hip late night groove of Follow Your Heart. Hearing this I was forever changed. I'd grown up, to the age of about 12 at this point, having been turned on to jazz by my Uncle Alan who used to hang out at Birdland and other NYC haunts. He'd played a lot of great stuff for me when I was little. But this Joe Farrell Quartet recording propelled me even further into the world of music. I have become more and more involved with music ever since, and this recording was of the greatest importance. I love this recording. I listened to it yesterday as I took a stroll out in the rather heavy rain. It hasn't changed. It is still one of my favorite things. I recommend it to all. And to those who've gone before me in reviewing this, I think you've made a bit of a mistake. Neither reviewer mentioned the great bass player Dave Holland who performs beautifully on this set. The Quartet I believe was made up of Joe, Chick, Dave + Jack with special guest John McLaughlin, who appeared only on Follow Your Heart. This is a must have."

"Joe Farrell was a tenor sax great, who died at age 48. This album is great throughout, strong group with John Mclaughlin, Chick Corea and Jack Dejohnette. Farrell was heavily influenced by Coltrane and it shows on this album with absolutelu haunting tenor solos. My favorite song and one of my all time favorites is Follow Your Heart. I remember back in the late 70's a jazz station in San Francisco would give the Bay Area Drug Report where they got drugs off the street and tested them for purity. They would play Follow Your Heart in the background. Coming from Carolina I thought it was strange but I loved the music."

THIS MUSIC IS PRE- MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA AND RETURN TO FOREVER, WAS RECORDED AFTER THESE ARTISTS LEFT MILES DAVIS' BAND AND SET OUT ON THEIR OWN, AT A VERY VERY TRANSITIONAL PERIOD IN THE HISTORY OF JAZZ MUSIC. THIS ALBUM IS REALLY SOME KIND OF AN ANACHRONYM, BUT IT IS REALLY GREAT, EVERY SONG."
