"I love work that hops genres and times. These beautiful, seductive pieces by Daniel Brel are enchanting and addictive. I picked the CD up on impulse and have been listening to it obsessively ever since. The bandoneon is an instrument most often associated with tango, and Brel's music indeed has some of the same flavors and moods of Astor Piazzola's. But the addition of Poéme Harmonique, a consort of viols, adds a gorgeous, vibrato-free string tone that matches the bandoneon surprisingly well. These pieces are moody and introspective, but also completely accessible, and lushly tonal. I suspect that you'll find this recording as compelling as I do. Another beautifully packaged and recorded entry from Alpha."
