Album Description2008 three CD set. Valkyrie is the first day of Wagner's festival play The Ring Of The Nibelung. The work enjoyed its premiere performance in Munich in 1870 and belongs to the extensive opera opus that originally lasted four hours: Wagner worked on the composition over a period of twenty-six years. This recording was made in 1954 and is an important one: on the one hand, it is the first complete studio recording of Valkyrie. On the other, it is the last studio recording made by Wilhelm Furtw?ngler, conducting the Vienna Philharmonic. Furtw?ngler died aged sixty-eight, just two months after the recording was made; he is considered one of the most important German conductors of the 20th century. Documents.
