Synopsis

Product Description
Hold onto your hats for a blizzard of virtuoso Vivaldi! Baroque ensemble REBEL with recorder soloist Matthias Maute give stylish, high octane readings of some of Vivaldi?s most beloved pieces. Included on this disc are the popular and raucous Concerto alla Rustica, the stunningly colorful Sonata on La Follia, and four of Vivaldi?s exuberant recorder concerti, played brilliantly by recorder soloist Mathias Maute. Known for his dazzling virtuosity and colorful expressivity, Matthias Maute is recognized as one of the foremost recorder players of his generation, and has earned an international reputation for his formidable talents as a traverso player as well as a composer. Mr. Maute was awarded first prize in the prestigious Musica Antiqua Competition in Bruges, Belgium. In addition to being a core member of REBEL, he is the Artistic Director of Ensemble Caprice and is a professor at McGill University in Montreal. Directed by Jörg-Michael Schwarz & Karen Marie Marmer, REBEL has been hailed by the New York Times as ?Sophisticated and Beguiling? and praised by the Los Angeles Times for their ?astonishingly vital music-making?. Based in New York City, REBEL (pronounced ?Re-BEL?) has earned an impressive international reputation, with their highly expressive and provocative approach to the Baroque and Classical repertoire. REBEL is currently in residence at historic Trinity Church, Wall Street in New York City. Named after the innovative French Baroque composer Jean-Féry Rebel (1666-1747), REBEL was originally formed in The Netherlands in l99l. In the Fifth International Competition for Ensembles in Early Music, Utrecht 1991 (now the van Wassenaer Competition) REBEL was awarded first prize. Since then the ensemble has performed throughout the USA and has recorded for Dorian, Hännsler Classic, and Deutsche Harmonia Mundi.
