Oooo Weeee! .. We Have Been Waiting For This!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"The moment we all waited for.."oooo weee!"..can't believe someone finally got the master tape from Capitol Records and transfered this analog masterpiece to digital disc... If you buy the disc for track 4 "I'm Gonna Make It After All", or track 6 "You're My Everything",you will be soulfully satisfied. The premier Anointed Urban Gospel Music crossover Giants the Rance Allen Group.. featuring Rance Allen! The critics say the other cuts are the choice cuts,.. but the real fans of Rance Allen know the real choice cuts.. Hope they release his "Smile", "Feel Like Going On", And Word Records Material soon!

Thank you soul bro. classics."
Ultra-creative inspirational masterpiece

"I never heard this album before I received it as a gift. I had heard of Rance Allen and had heard him sing on other artists' projects, and read that this album was a lost masterpiece of sorts. Plus, the cover was quite intriguing. So when my birthday came around, this was on my wish list.

WOW.

What a musical journey these brothas took us on in 1977. A very short one. But what a trip. How do I describe the sound? It's hard to put it into words. Shame on Amazon for not having sound samples, lol. But think of mid-70's, pre-pop Earth Wind and Fire with alternating extra shots of summery jazz and gospel, and you'll have it.

That would be good enough by itself. However, SAY MY FRIEND has this awesome musical landscape as a foundation for its inspirational lyrics. It's rare that a Christian album strikes a balance between being adventurous musically without having the Message buried or snuffed by all the good sounds. But Rance and the crew hit this one right on the head. "Reason To Survive" for example, is one of the best hand-dance numbers I've ever heard; yet the lyrics cause you to think and stick with you long after the music stops.

Rance's vocals. More adventure. Overdone? Well, some people may think so. But I appreciate the musicality in his ad-libs and he is quite the vocal technician. Some of the things he does with his voice and RANGE ... I've just never heard anywhere else, especially the subtleties you may miss with just one listen. While a case could possibly be made that he's borderline obnoxious sometimes, I don't think he ever crosses that line on this album. It's just Rance being Rance, singing about what he believes, and that honesty and conviction add yet another layer of goodness to these tracks.

Sonics. This album sounds terrific. The remastering keeps the sound as warm as it can possibly be on a digital medium without being either flat or overboosted. Thumbs up to Soul Brother Records not only for re-releasing this masterpiece, but for doing it the right way.

SAY MY FRIEND is a job well done and worth supporting. More than 30 years after it first hit the streets, it still stands as a testament to God's everlasting love for all of us. Let's thank Him for delivering that testament to us via some of the best ambassadors of soul to ever record."
