Synopsis

Amazon.com
The basic trio that comprises the Rarely Herd, Jim Stack (guitar, vocals), Alan Stack (mandolin, fiddle), and Jeff Weaver (bass), has been augmented and fully realized by the additions of Rob Ickes's melodic Dobro and Don Wayne Reno's banjo. Strong original material such as "Moonville Brakeman," "My Virginia Girl," and "Hang Your Coat" accompany Steve Wariner's "When Will I Let Go," Bob Dylan's "One More Night," and Leon Jackson's classic "Love Please Come Home." Showcasing the band's attractive vocal harmonies, the recording rarely strays from its bluegrass-country-blues roots and comes across as an honest, heartfelt expression of music to live by. --Brian Hollander

CD Reviews

Coming of Age: Rarely Herd is one fine Bluegrass group
Wil Bostic | Granville, OH USA | 07/16/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I have been a Bluegrass fan (nut) for 30 years, and the Rarely Herd has become one of my favorites. Catch the group live somewhere...The Coming of Age CD is a keeper! I listen to it in my car (actually pickup) all the time. The music is upbeat and new, but still has the traditional sound; their harmony is supurb. "Ain't No Way to Go" is a foot stomper, and :"Cecil Barfield" plays those Georgia Blues is fun; it's only too bad the CD was cut prior to Ned Luberecki (banjo & guitar) joining the group; he adds a dimension to this song with 3-finger guitar blues pickin'...not on this CD though. "Love Please Come Home" will be a favorite of the fans of Reno & Smiley", with son Don Wayne Reno playing his dad's banjo. Buy it and enjoy: I sure do."
