CD Reviews"Wiped Out" are the wild, best heavy metal cd! Daniel R. Rogers | Boerne, Texas United States | 07/15/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "The Wild Heavy Metal Power Trio made their best cd! I think there are two brothers that formed a power trio named "Raven", they are from Newcastle, England. Vocals and bass guitar - John Gallagher and lead guitar - Mark Gallagher. They played like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath as Thrash Metal. This cd music goes like "bang, bang, kabooms!" John Gallagher scream that sounded like Robert Plant scream. It's a FUN, ENERGIZED, LOUD, FUNNY CD you are going to enjoy it!!! " OTT big time A. Antero | 03/17/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "Raven's debut LP "Rock Until You Drop" (1981) got superb follow-up in 1982's "Wiped Out". Here the boys go even faster and further in lunacy and testing their limits with instruments. What I like most (with cool songwriting, energy, enthusiasm etc. etc.) in early Raven is their humour. We all know Heavy Metal and humour is a tough pair, hard to get working together successfully. Still Raven succeeded in that. Their sense of humour in first 3 albums and "Crash Bang Wallop!" EP (1982) is similar to Monty Python's; they're both funny and anarchistic without being stupid. This cool edition adds bonus tracks, including all tracks from "Crash Bang Wallop!"." Okay But Not My Thing Fred Rayworth | Las Vegas, NV United States | 03/06/2009 (3 out of 5 stars) "This band is a case where no matter how much you like a genre of music (NWOBHM), not every band is going to rock your boat.
I bought Wiped Out in Spain in the mid 80's, and listened to it only once. I couldn't remember why until I burned it to CD to listen to on my long commute to work. Try as I might, I just don't get a charge out of these guys. First off, the vocals. While Gallagher has plenty of range and a powerful voice, instead of being out front, his vocals are buried in the mix so much that I couldn't understand most of the lyrics, even though he was singing clearly. I could take that if the songs were any better because I really don't care about the lyrics anyway. However, after multiple listens, I can't remember a single song, melody, or phrase. This is touted as an essential NWOBHM classic from a band that supposedly sold out when they moved to the states. Maybe it is for some of you, but for me, there are just too many bands I like a lot better. I understand they are still around and I wish them the best. Just not my thing. " |
