CD ReviewsEasy Listening Wr1teR | {Cook County IL Born} | 08/08/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "This cd is awesome to meditate to... or fall asleep to!!! Awesome at night, lights off... puts your mind at ease as you fall asleep... That's what I would recommend this for... or a daily meditation assistant... I bought it as sort of a trial to Indian Music / Buddhist Music and I was very very impressed... The music has a definite Art to it... It's more than just melodies and instruments and that's what I appreciate about it... but on the musical side it's also very well arranged, definitely nothing thrown together!! I'd tried Jazz and Instrumentals, no complaints... but this has more of a mental stimulant and substance to it... The music is very ethnic and allows you to relax your mind but also keeps your senses alert to the state of relaxation (if that makes sense...) Take one of Ravi's cds, put it on for 20 minutes of the day and let your mind just rest... Set the alarm, just 20 minutes is all it really takes to refocus... Do it on your lunch break in your car... it's just a really easy cd to listen to... It doesn't demand much of you as far as the drastic changes in melodies, etc... I really enjoyed it and I look forward to collecting all of Mr. Shankars' cd's." Enchanting Montage Spk | NY | 08/21/2006 (4 out of 5 stars) "A collection of spiritual gems set to music in Ravi Shankar's signature style. The music grows and grows on you with each hearing. Interestingly, as you ruminate on the meaning of the chants, you suddenly want to read the whole piece from which extracts are presented in this collection - which is precisely what the aim of putting this together was. Well, it worked with me! I saw Ravi Shankar as a young college student on a tour to our college promoting culture and music among youth - he is still at it with gusto, inspiration and sublime creativity." A + Mantra Collection Jeff Farrow | 01/21/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "CHANTS OF INDIA is one of several traditionalist Indian recordings produced by George Harrison and featuring sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar. This featured CD is also features a male and female duet and together they vocalize all the mystery and spiritual connection associated with the Hindu faith.
My mantra music collection is quite extensive, but this is one of the few I listen to over & over again. HIGHLY recommended. [NOTE 12/26/08: I see this wonderful collection of mantra has been discontinued & that's a real shame. At the risk of being repetitious, I want to reiterate the fact that even if a CD has been discontinued, you may still be able to purchase it from a private vendor list on the details page. I haven't been burned once going that route--good product, good price & arriving on time. Look ro a vendor with a 96-100% satisfaction rating. When they say "excellent condition, just like new" it usually is & may still be in original plastic seal. For this CD, I'd suggest going as high as $25-30.] The Essential Ravi Shankar The Sounds of India West Meets East: The Historic Shankar Menuhin Collection Sacred Chants of Shiva: From the Banks of the Ganges Vision of Peace: The Art of Ravi Shankar Love Is Space Gayatri Mantra: Hymn to the Spirit Within the Fire Dancing with Siva Mantra Music Festival from India " |
