"These recordings are original Columbia recordings from the late 60s-early 70s. The backings are heavily string-laden with residual traces of country elements such as twangy guitars and steel guitar, a style referred to in those days as 'Countrypolitan'. The twenty cuts on this CD are seven hits in their original versions ("For the Good Times", "I Won't Mention It Again", "I'd Rather Be Sorry", "Sweetheart of The Year", "You Wouldn't know Love", "She Wears My Ring" and "Danny Boy") plus thirteen album cuts from this period. The album cuts include covers of various pop or pop/country hits such as "Little Green Apples", "Sunday Morning Coming Down" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" plus new recordings of "Crazy Arms" and "Heartaches By The Number" (which were not really remakes but rather album filler for the FOR THE GOOD TIMES album). Sound quality is only okay, the recordings could/should have been digitally remastered. I'd give this CD 3.5 stars. This Madacy package comes with a bonus DVD of concert footage from the mid-to-late 1980s with his Cherokee Cowboys band (which I'd rate at 4.5 stars). The recordings on the DVD are considerably more country than the recordings on the CD, and are worth the price of the package even if you already have the recordings on the CD"
