"With the exception of #1-5 being Ray Stevens classics, this CD is a collection of his days at Curb Records. Curb chose some of the best cuts from his albums: "Classic Ray Stevens", "#1 With a Bullet", and "Lend Me Your Ears." They have done a super job of picking some great songs. This is the best CD I can find on covering Ray's work from 1990-1993. It's a must have from any comedy or Ray Stevens fan as the original three CDs are hard to come by. You'll love it!"

"Ray has had a very long career, during which he has recorded some of the funniest songs in popular music. The first five tracks are taken from the sixties, seventies and eighties although Shriner's convention is presented here as a live recording. The other oldies (The streak, Gitarzan, Ahab the Arab, Bridget the midget) are the original recordings.
The remaining fifteen tracks were recorded for three albums - Lend me your ears (1990), #1 with a bullet (1991) and Classic Ray Stevens (1993). They are all original songs except Help me make it through the night, which Ray begins in conventional style but then decides to step up the tempo with all guns blazing - it certainly makes a change from the other versions of this classic and is mildly amusing.
The original songs may not quite match the brilliance of some of his earlier classics but they are still highly entertaining, particularly The all-American two week summer family vacation, Back in the doghouse again, Ballad of Jake McClusky, Tabloid news, A little blue-haired lady,, Super cop, Used cars and Where do my socks go?
This is not the best place to start a collection of Ray's music but if you enjoy his earlier stuff, you will surely love this too."

"Ray Stevens is a complicated person and that is never so true as when you listen to him on CD. This album is made up of those fun songs that are just plain silly but make you laugh despite yourself. I must say in a world where funny now appears to be making a fool of someone else or bringing someone down and embarrasing them this is a real find. I am an unabashed fan of Ray Stevens and appreciate the joy he has brought to this world with his music, silly or serious."
