CD Reviews

AM radio Top-40 pop
Jerry McDaniel | 12/05/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"for nostalgia buffs craving some music from the Top-40 era on AM radio and are a bit tired of the British invasion acts all over Oldies radio, check out this Ray Stevens CD. It contains 20 songs, each and every one was a hit song on the pop, country, or AC charts! this CD is fabulous and it rekindles AM Top-40 pop radio when all it took was sales and or public acceptance for a single to be a hit. now a committee has to say what gets played and what time it plays and playlists are all pre-determined in advance leaving no room for break-out hits and the like."
An Excellent Album
The Trickster | Belly Button, NM, USA | 06/08/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I am enjoying this album. Many of Ray's best works are on here, though some are not original versions, but copies of tapes redone by other companies. I don't believe "Harry the Hairy Ape" or "Ahab, the Arab" are originals.

Be that as it may, the recordings are of very good quality, and there is such a great selection on this disk. If you like Ray Stevens, you probably enjoy this album. I am especially enjoying some of Ray's more serious hits, such as "Misty", "Sunday Morning Commin' Down" written by the great songwriter, Chris Christopherson, but sung extremely well here by Ray. "Mr. Businessman" is done very well, as is the very funny, "Along Came Jones".

This album is well worth the money, in my opinion."
The Originals
Paul W. Dennis | Winter Springs, FL USA | 03/27/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"A priceless treasure from a label usually known for second rate re-recordings. In this instance the original recordings have been licensed from Barnaby including some of the more serious numbers such as "Unwind" ,"Mr.Businessman", "Misty" and "Everything Is Beautiful" and the Albert Brumley gospel classic "Turn Your Radio On". Plenty of good Ray Stevens comedy here, including the original version of his biggest hit "The Streak".

This is the best Ray Stevens collection on the market. If you can find this CD you truly will have the "Best of Ray Stevens"
