"Why oh why, did this release go to Renaissance Records? This is one GREAT album, but you couldn't tell it from this TERRIBLE quality release. The original vinyl HAS to sound better than this. Like listening to it through a tin-can.



Who runs this label? Can they hear?



the album is great, but this re-issue is TERRIBLE. Buy the LP. I'm just sorry I rewarded the record label by giving them my money for this terrible production.



I gave it 4 stars for the material, not the quality of the re-issue!"

Great recording, Terrible CD reissue by Renaissance Label

"What a damn shame! Red 7's debut album was a perfect blend of prog pop from the tight style of Police with nods to Peter Gabriel. Of course, it was produced by Mike Rutherford (Genesis bass,guitarist and Mike + The Mechanics leader). A labor of love, and has some gems on it ( esp Heartbeat, that just speaks Peter Gabriel all over it ). Some hyper Police pop all throughout and a recording worth having... BUT then comes the only chance we all seem to have to get this gem on compact disc... and wouldn't you know it? It's from that horrid Renaissance

Label that must be run by deaf old men or poor farts who use radio shack compressors and mixboards to ( and I have to use this term loosely ) Remix or whatever it is they do.. to issue old vinyl records onto CD's. Me thinks it is some kid in a basement on his computer using a cheapass early 90's Analogue to digital program



So if you want to really hear RED 7, and super bands like CITY BOY in their best and intended atmosphere ( their proper mixes and production ) then you will have to settle for their original vinyl releases. Otherwise, you get someting here that you could do yourself. Buy the vinyl, record it to CD-R and THERE you go!!



And I am so sad to give this review. Mostly because I want the bands to make some more money off their old releases.. just not Renaissance Records. They sucked the life out of everything I have heard them do on CD so far. As Jed Clampet of Beverly Hillbillies says.. piiiiiiiiiitifuuuul, jez piiiiiiiiitifuuul!!



But do buy old vinyl of RED 7 *s* Because they are a super tight smart prog pop band that got way overlooked in the 90's commercialization of music in the USA.

"I initially bought this via download to replace an aging original vinyl LP. Yuch. I heard almost no bass. "Where was the thumping kick drums?", I thought. And then I read the reviews here that the record was remastered for CD. Again, 'yuch'.



A better option would have been for me to transfer the LP to mp3 myself.



Red7 rocks. They were overlooked in the 80's. And now with this reissue, they've been given an audio lobotomy. If you're looking for a precious replacement for a melody that you've had in your head since 1986, you won't find it here. Instead dig for the LP, or even a cassette.
