"This, along with "Can't See For Lookin'" rank as some of my favorite trio recordings (another being Ray Bryant's trio from 1957 with Ike Isaacs and Specks Wright). On these, both Paul Chambers and Art Taylor - A.T. - give a clinic on swinging without breaking the groove, ever. Red gives Benny Carter's "M Squad" a real going over, and "Your Red Wagon" is an up-tempo 'diddy-wah-diddy' masterpiece. This recording swings like crazy, as does "Can't See..." - the knock on the latter being that it clocks in at under 35 minutes total time. No matter. I've heard LPs, CDs, whatever twice as long that say half as much. "Red In Bluesville" smokes many other better known trio recordings."
'Bluesville' should be renamed RedGarlandville

"I have been a Red Garland junkie ever since I first heard him on
Miles Davis's 'Round Midnight'.Thanks to Red,'Bye Bye Blackbird is still my favorite Miles ' from his first great quintet. I am unsure which of the several Red Garland trio cd's is my favorite-my only complaint on all of them is just that they aren't long enough. In any case, what caught my eye on 'Red in Bluesville' was his 'Theme from M Squad'.Red,with Arthur Taylor on drums and Sam Jones on bass should also be a 'must buy' for anyone in St. Louis for their version of ' The St. Louis Blues."
Another Outstanding Release By The Garland Trio

""Red In Bluesville" is an excellent record. Anything you can buy by Red Garland will not disappoint. His popularity surprises me though and how many jazz fans don't listen to him. He's a true master and anyone want to hear him in fine form, pick this album up. Red is joined by Sam Jones on bass and Art Taylor on drums. By the way, how many sessions has Art Taylor been on? I mean it seems like every jazz record I pick up he's on drums! Anyway, this is an album you can't go wrong with especially if you like swinging jazz piano trios. Highly recommended."
Yep - I stand corrected
