Synopsis

Album Description
THE RED PAINTINGS HAVE ALWAYS DONE THINGS A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY. THEIR LIVE SHOWS AIM AND SUCCEED AT BEING BIGGER, BOLDER AND RISKIER THAN WHAT OTHER LOCAL BANDS EVEN CONTEMPLATE. AND WITH THIS NEW ALBUM, THE BOLDNESS AND THE RISKS KEEP COMING. THE 11 SONGS HERE WERE ALL RECORDED LIVE FOR A 4ZZZ SESSION WITH A STRIPPED DOWN VERSION OF THE BAND. ABSENT ARE THE DRUMS, BASS AND ALL THE EPIC ROCK THEATRICS AND IN THEIR PLACE ARE CELLO, VIOLIN AND MAIN MAN TRASH MCSWEENEY PLAYING ACOUSTIC GUITAR AND SINGING. PRESENTED IN THIS STRINGS FORMAT, THE SONGS ARE AS EQUALLY IMPRESSIVE AS IN THEIR USUAL EXPLOSIVE LIVE INCARNATIONS. SEEING AND HEARING THEM AS JUST BARE BONES REVEALS THE STRENGTH AND ORIGINALITY OF THE SONG WRITING AND THE TALENT AND BEAUTY IN THE PLAYING. THEY'RE A BAND WHO DESERVE TO HAVE THEIR RISK REWARDED". - RAVE MAGAZINE OCTOBER 04

Twinkle the little stars of awesome... I am the first qwarrr

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I first saw The Red Paintings at the Valley Fiesta 2004 in Brisbane... I found it to be the most amazing music I had heard in a very long time - in fact I can think of nothing that sounds or feels like it... and with the costumes, painting, visuals and statues I was very much taken... Live they are absolutely amazing...

So then when I found they were doing an instore at Skinnys in Brisbane I decided to go... and it may be the most awesome thing I can think of to date... It was great, there were little balloon people on a screen behind them as they played... Most of the time I found that I was giggling...

I had no hesitation in buying the album (as to the quality of the live performances)... Though I didn't know where I was supposed to buy it from... so I just walked up and threw money down on the counter and Trash (vocals, guitar) was like 'what are you doing? oh you're buying it...' ... Then I bought it - after speaking a little with Trash... I found Trash to be most awesome... he is a very lovely man... So much so I consider him one of the most awesome people I know, knowing him has been a pleasure... and I hope to know him well into the future...

Upon listening to the album I found that I loved it so much... that since then I've barely missed a show... and I always promote them where ever I go... One of the great things about the band is the atmosphere... the fans and the band create such a loving and friendly enviroment... and everyone there is a geniune person... strange as most of them are... including myself I guess...

The music is truly amazing... the strings in it make me so (I can't even describe the feeling) I love that there is violin and cello involved... as well as guitar, bass, and drums... but string instruments really take me away... I love it... I love them... The album is so great I really recommend you obtain it at once...

Also they are only getting better... and they have an EP out soon called 'Walls'... it is amazing... it's getting radio play on JJJ in Australia at the moment... and reached #2 on the Net 50 before it has even been released...

I can't even describe what you are missing if you don't get this album... or anything by The Red Paintings for that matter...

Love... to you... if you buy it..."
