CD ReviewsInspiring and genuinely brilliant 01/25/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "this is a truly great record. and it's been nearly totalled overlooked. the label that released it, spin-art, never did much to promote it and just sort of let it die... such a shame. as for what it sounds like, it's kind of like jackson browne and lou reed meets smog and elliot smith. it's really great singer-songwriter music, backed by a full band.louis currently lives in new york and still plays shows; but now he plays under his name, rather than Regia. he's been working on getting another record released for a long time. his live show is great, and he even gives away cd-rs of his new stuff at the shows.i think history will vindicate louis schefano. he'll end up one of those singer-songwriters who get cult-like notoriety later in life, but struggle in their heyday--like alex chilton, nick drake, or emmit rhodes. so buy this record. you won't be sorry." Sweet, simple, infectious pop tunes. 08/03/1999 (4 out of 5 stars) "I'm not sure what Regia means. I've looked it up and have come up with a surprising array of definitions: underground Roman ruins used to escape the summer heat; an Anglo-Saxon military organization; the largest water lily in the world, native to the Amazon Basin, which can sustain the weight of rabbit-sized animals; the name of a contemporary painter. The list goes on. I'm not sure what Birmingham, Alabama native Louis Schefano had in mind when he named his group Regia but his debut release, The Art of Navigation, is pure pop pleasure, regardless of the moniker. The songs are simple, sweet and utterly infectious with thoughtful, introspective lyrics. The album has an amazing amount of variety for a pop record, sounding both contemporary and reminiscent of a bygone era. I challenge you not to sing along to this one." What a gem! Ashley Powell | Los Angeles, CA USA | 02/28/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "This was such a wonderful find! It hasn't left my cd player since I got it 3 weeks ago. Which is crazy for me, since I switch CDs like every hour! I definitely recommend this to fans of...well, really good music! :)"
