A Modern Miracle -- The Reincarnation of Scott Joplin
Michael Strom | Chicago, IL USA | 03/15/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"There is no rational explanation for Reginald Robinson. No one should be able to write credible ragtime music so long after the classic Scott Joplin era. But this is unbelievable. Robinson is a high school drop out, raised in one of the worst Chicago ghetto areas, & mostly self-taught. And by age twenty, he wrote an album full of NEW, ORIGINAL rags that sound like Reggie just picked up where Joplin left off, at a time and place that couldn't be further in time & spirit from the period that produced ragtime music in the first place. It's a miracle.Anyone who enjoyed the classic solo piano recordings of Joplin's rags will not only enjoy this disc, but be stunned that it could even exist. The playing is crisp, the new tunes are original & familiar at the same time, & this guy has his whole life in front of him."
Fun and excitement
