"Rena Kyriakou was the most prominent Greek female pianist in the first half of the last century, who emerged and triumphed with a particular sense of the color tonal. Moreover, she established (with the other brilliant colorist as the Brazilian Guiomar Novaes) new standards of imaginative execution in Felix Mendelssohn; Enrique Granados, and specially around the legendary Isaac Albeniz. It's not by mere casualty, the following generation of female pianists such as Alicia de la Rocha, Marylenne Dosse or Ilse von Alpenheim (Antal Dorati's wife have traveled similar runs: Of course, we shoul not forget other remarkable names such as Lili Kraus (in Mozart); Nikolayeva and Tureck (Bach), Annie Fisher (Bartok and Beethoven), Edith Farnadi (Liszt) Rosita Renard; Marie Darre, Landowska, , Myra Hess, Beatriz Klien, Hilda Sommers, Ursula Oppenheimer, Selma Kramer and Annia Dorffman.
But along the way Kyriakou and De la Rocha have been the most consequent and tenacious interpreters of Albeniz . In the case of Rena Kyriakou, her approach is so Mediterranean, limpid and brilliant that literally is impossible to figure a better depiction of those musical canvas that are part from the suite Iberia;. Additionally, you will find out other lesser works that complement the whole vision of this well gifted Spanish composer.
This set is not only a fabulous choice but a successful purchase, (keeping in mind the level of artistic stature of this excel pianist). So, please, don't forget to acquire this album.
