Synopsis

Somewhere in this fair land of ours there are probably people who find the Reverend Billy C. Wirtz hilarious. There may even be people out there whose idea of a hysterical song is one about a late-night party in a refrigerator where the oysters are smoking and the eggs are cracking up. Those folks will love "Food Chain of Fools," a boogie-woogie number from Wirtz's A Turn for the Wirtz. Some listeners may even exist who want to hear a parody of Red Sovine's "Phantom 309," with the truck driver's ghost replaced by the wraith of a motel prostitute who saved a busload of Girl Scouts from an exploding magic-fingers machine; those fans will want to hear Wirtz's "Room 309." After all, some people find Bob Hope funny. --Geoffrey Himes

CD Reviews

Reverend Billy is funny.
08/19/1999
(4 out of 5 stars)

"One might or might not like how Wirtz sings or plays, or one might not like the fact that Billy is not politically correct, but his song-writing is consistently hilarious. I have seen Reverend Billy perform three times. The audience, both fans and first-timers, is ALWAYS in stitches. My only advice is to ignore, completely ignore, anyone who suggests otherwise."
Irreverent but not irrelevant

"I feel very lucky, the Colorado Springs FAC, (Fine Arts Center), has

a piano that the Reverend Billy C. Wirtz is having an affair with. I

an lucky enough to see the Reverend every year, its one of those under

swell sell outs, not a hot ticket, but a sell out just the same. I even

have the prayer rug signed by the Reverend, "To One Hillbilly Love Got

To Another", and I proudly framed it and hung it in my bathroom, above

the commode. If you haven't seen the Reverend, I suggest you go see the

Reverend, as Cab Calloway said in the "Blues Brothers" movie, "You

better get some churchin up"! This is a 1/2 n' 1/2 album, studio/live.

which does not make it a bad CD, but to be forwarned is to be

foreskined. I mean, "Food Chain of Fool's" followed by "Hold the Mayo"

is funny just to read, wait till you hear it. I would listen to any

Reverend Billy C. Wirtz album before you by one, I have seen people walk

out of his concerts, to tell a secret though, they were rather stuffed

shirts, I talked them in the waiting line, I think they were FAC museum

donors, (big), and got free tickets for their donations. But it hasn't

stopped Reverend Billy from coming yearly in April."
