Curious step worth following

"I adore Richard Lloyd's music and playing, from way back when with Television, through his days playing with Matthew Sweet, his work with Bibi Farber, Rocket from the Tombs (redux), and most especially his solo records which don't seem to me to get nearly the attention they deserve. This very obscurely titled disc is Lloyd's take on Jimi and is a curious step. Part homage, part night at the covers' bar, it is lovingly conceived and played, (nearly) adequately sung - only now and then a Lloyd strong suit, and the liners make fascinating reading (as well as explaining the title), but Lloyd doesn't really attempt to reimagine these songs or offer a new take on them. It is a good listen and, as ever, you'll sigh contentedly at his amazing guitar work, but for myself, I'd have rather had a new album of originals or heard him take these apart and reassemble them in his own image. Still, worth it for Richard's and Jimi's fans."
