Truly Masterful Live Performances

"
Richter's magnificent & uncompromising authorized recordings of Schubert Sonatas, D894, 575 & 840, are back! These three sonatas are especially difficult to pull off as they are highly complex and repetitive (Volodos made deeply contemplative yet painfully boring recording!). These live performances are totally captivating and eloquent without pulling things around."
Pay attention, please

"I agree with other revisions of this CD, about the difficulty of the pieces, mainly because of their repetitive character and peculiar atmosphere. But what I want to say is that, although the Piano Sonata in C major, D840 wasn't finished by Schubert, and although many times has been recorded just in its first two movements, in this recording it ends as Schubert left it, unfinished, abruptly, but so abruptly that, wereas in the other two sonatas you hear the applauses at the end, in this third not only the sonata ends, but as well the CD and you are left with the idea that you've been cheated. A small applause would have helped.

But a great interpretation of a deceptively 'easy' sonatas."
