This all-Scriabin recital recorded live in Warsaw in October 1972 captures Sviatoslav Richter in staggering form. The engineering is not especially alluring (for incisive sound, go to his 1972 Prague Scriabin 2nd and 5th on Praga), but Richter's insidious legato and crew-cut rhythm invariably pull you into both the pianist's and the composer's sound world. Anthological album!

"I had the fortune of getting this album in 1995 in New York. And believe me, hardly you will be able to find musical readings that even can get close to these incandescent,nocturnal,radiant and powerful expresive performances.

Richter was a pianist who played superbly. But undoubtedly he played even best in live recordings. Threre was a special and unspoken commitment in his mind to give the best of his craft in every piece he played.

Since I have almost eighty CD and fifteen records of this pianist,I can express this statement.

The Second, Fifth and Ninth Sonata for instance are simply unique in style and conception. He focuses the intreospective soul and mind of Scriabin as few pianists can make it. And I insist: it is not a question of technique, but empathy and absolute domain of the Scriabin pathos.

We should never forget Richter was the best pupil of Neehaus who knew personally to Scriabin. Only a pianist of his immense potential can dare a Scriabin whole program.

And the fortunate people who had the honor to assist this historic performance in 1972 surely will never forget this recital, because if you listen this legendary performance you will agree with me we are in front of one of the most important piano recitals in any age. Richter palyed with lyricism, sumptuosity, rage, and incandescent passion giving always the perfect auditive balance.

Be a hard fan of Richter or not , I beg you to intend for all your means to find this album.
