"It's a nice suprise to see these two Derringer band albums released together on one CD by British reissue company BGO records, making this disc a good value. Rick Derringer was the first concert I ever went to, around the time "Derringer" came out, I still remember it as a great concert, Rick was really into it. It's due time that artists like Rick Derringer and Johnny Winter (who also has a BGO disc) have some more of their full albums come out on cd. They were two excellent guitarists. After being in the limelight for awhile with the hit single from 1973's "All American Boy"- "Rock and roll Hoochie Koo", Derringer spent the next few years doing sessions with other bands (Edgar Winter Group and also Steely Dan's "Countdown to ecstacy" and "Katy Lied"). There is some speculation that Steely Dan offered him to stay on, and later wrote "Rikki don't lose that number" about it. 1975 saw the release of another solo album "Spring fever" which I felt was an overall stronger record than All American Boy, but it did'nt sell as well. These 2 Derringer band albums were ones I had on Lp, they rock harder than his previous solo albums but for whatever reasons did not attain the success of All American Boy. There are some weak tunes, but also some of the best Derringer recorded are here- "Loosen up your Grip", "Sitting by the Pool", "sweet evil". "Comes a woman" etc. RD could lay down some riff, anyone who saw him live in his prime knows this. Buy this disc and get ready to rock out."
So THIS is what everybody was talking about!

"I always heard that Rick Derringer rocked. Unfortunately, the first album I ever got by him was All-American Boy, which is absolutely terrible except for Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo and maybe 1-2 other songs. Finally, after 25 years, I decided to take a chance on another of his albums and got this double disc set after seeing a reference to it online. This time I was not disappointed. This cd is full of great guitar and great songs--especially when it gets to the Sweet Evil tracks. I'll be listening to this a lot."

"First off, Rick Derringer is/was one of the most underrated guitar players alive. His passion for the music always comes through, even making some weaker songs strong. Always one to surround himself w/other great musicians, the more they seem to push Rick, the better he is. If you love these LPs, such as I do, you will have to get your paws on Live. I waited forever for this gem to get out, and now it is available. And speaking of Live, try out the Live at the Paradise Theater CD (recorded live in Boston for a radio show, it kicks ass!). Great songs, great performance, and yes again, great friggin' guitar!"
