"Rick Margitza produced what to me is one of the most beautiful contemporary jazz-recordings of the 1990's. Brilliantly backed by pianist Kevin Hays, bassist George Mraz and drummer Al Foster (Mraz was already on Margitza's fantastic "Work it" album for the Danish SteepleChase-label earlier in the year), he weaves through a set of mostly originals, "Embraceable you" being the only standard in the set. Margitza's sound is quite onlike anybody else's. He manages to sound both bleak and warm at the same time, quite incomparable to any saxophonist I've ever heard. His compositions are all unusual AND memorable, the title-track and "At long last" being true gems of lyrical inventiveness. Extremely well recorded and gorgeous packaging ! Fans of contemporary jazz will absolutely love this CD. Following this young man's career might turn out to be a very worthwhile experience indeed ! This dynamite album should put you on the right track."
