CD Reviews

Don't play this on your PC!

"Sony's copy protection scheme installs harmful rootkit software on Windows machines. This software can crash your machine, and make it easier for viruses to infect you. It also causes a small but constant drain on your processing power - even when you're not listening to music. By design, it is impossible to uninstall without advanced technical skills.

Sony recently released a patch to mitigate these concerns. However, the patch only addresses the issue of potential virus infection. Uninstalling the software is still nearly impossible, and if attempted incorrectly can render your CD drive unusable.

For more information, search for "sony rootkit" on the sysinternals web site."
Ricky's latest music is great - don't blame him for SONY's i

"I agree with all that has been said regarding Sony and their deplorable actions with rootkit, etc. That said, in fairness, I think the artists who are unfortunate enough to have contractual obligations to Sony, and who had cds released during this window of time should not be inked with the same foul brush as Sony itself.

This cd is wonderful; a departure and evolution for Ricky, with world sounds, collaborations with Fat Joe, Voltio, Scott Storch, Daddy Yankee and more on this cd - and if you weren't aware, Ricky Martin co-wrote many of the songs on this cd. You see a more raw and perhaps more real side of Ricky than we have seen before, particularly in "I Am" and "Drop It On Me." I usually skip tracks 3 & 4 - "I Don't Care" was released too far in advance of "Life" and I got tired of it before I heard the rest of the cd. I prefer most any remix of IDC to the album version, and Diane Warren's "Stop Time Tonight" is IMO the weakest track on the cd. I especially LOVE "This is Good," ""I Won't Desert You," and "Dejate Llevar" (the Spanish version of "It's Alright"). Those that liked the remix of "Cambia le Piel" (from the Sound Loaded cd) that was on pLATINum Rhythms will recognize drummer and co-writer Danny's Lopez's style on this cd as well.

As with Sound Loaded and continuing with Almas del Silencio, there are too many layers of sound to fully appreciate when played on your computer, or anything less than a system with good speakers cranked up to a decent volume - or right in your ears with good-quality ear/headphones.

Download the cd from iTunes (you get a bonus track that way), or send your cd back to Sony - supposedly they'll send you a replacement in 6-8 weeks, but don't miss the music on this cd! Sadly, for big fans, the dual disc version which was supposed to have been released has been indefinitely post-poned. Sony only added to fans ire with that announcement. I hope they DO release the thing - I have had issues with them for years regarding their marketing strategy with remixes/singles released all over the world with different versions - and the only way to get them on eBay or from DJs or expensive collector sites, not even through Sony, his official website, or even the world Amazons, etc.

If you haven't listened to Ricky since Livin' la Vida Loca or Shake Your Bonbon - give him another listen. It's like that was an entirely different "LIFE" from the new release.

Great CD!

"Ricky Martins best english album yet! Don't curse the CD with low ratings because of a Sony software problem, it's no fault of Ricky Martin. The software problem is non-existant on this CD anyhow."
