"A sometimes enticing alternative record, "Sanctuary Medicines" combines rock, trip-hop, metal, dance, funk, electronica, spoken word, pop, grunge and industrial/ goth. Yes, all these styles in one album. And does it work? Hmmmmm, not very well. Most of this music has been done before and better by bands like Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack or Prodigy, so Rico has nothing all that new to offer. "Sanctuary Medicines" provides some experimentalism at parts, yet it becomes derivative anyway and fails to impress. There are some good songs here nonetheless, like the enticing single "Smokescreen" or the desperate and dark "Float". Still, for the most part this effort is not very memorable or innovative and ends up being another uneven rock album.Nothing special."
