The most beautiful voice!

"This recording is quite amazing. I never really had the patience to sit and listen to Rigoletto mainly because Gilda's music somehow annoys me, and though I like the tenor part, a bel canto dramatic tenor would be my preference in the role (other than Del Monaco - perhaps Prevedi?). The part of Rigoletto interested me via the recordings of Enrico Molinari because of his incomparable Verdi attack. But, Stracciari is the star here.



My interest in Stracciari came from the idea that Zinka Milanov's baritone father held Stracciari as THE example of bel canto for the baritone voice, and she said also that her voice is based on the vowel [u] or oo, like the voice of Stracciari. Years later, I finally bought this recording. Needless to say, Stracciari has taken my senses by storm; his is flatly the most beautiful voice I have heard. I did not say greatest singer, but the most beautiful voice which he lavishes on you like a string of bronzed pearls. Forever and endless beauty! My goodness this voice!!!!



The others are impressive in their own way, especially Mercedes Capsir. She is a bel canto goddess with lovely acuti and stupendous messe di voce. Dino Borgioli is good enough with fine phrasing, but light tenors really annoy me and I admit it is completely personal.



Again Molajoli delivers well but pressed to finish, as always, on the move.



I strongly suggest this Rigoletto. It is the only one which caught then held my attention."
