Synopsis
Amazon.com Some will argue that the music of Ringside, the unignorably good-looking duo of Californians Scott Thomas and actor Balthazar Getty, is itself ignorable: Each trance and electronica-tinged song swings safely into the next, providing for a whole-disc experience that coasts pleasantly but fails to chug or challenge. Others--reviewers not put off by yet another celebrity sidelining as a rock star included--will argue that it's a great disc, and they will be right. Thomas, Ringside's tortured-sounding frontman, apes an irony-steeped Eels sound on some tracks and channels Joseph Arthur when he's in a more serious mood, but his handle on substance-suffused pop is his own. If he sidesteps power chords and pyrotechnics, it's in the interest of rounded riffs and reel-you-in hooks. Balthazar Getty, for his part, holds court in the beat department, and there he kills--"Talk to Me" pulses dreamily, and "Tired of Being Sorry" soars. Forced to choose among his talents, the fan conclusion might go like this: Forget White Squall and pull up a seat for Ringside. -Tammy La Gorce> Similar CDsSimilarly Requested CDs

CD ReviewsHypnotic Delight! R. Sousa | Tewksbury, MA USA | 07/26/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "This CD offers a refreshing blend of electronica, rock and pleasing melodies that pull you in and take you for a pleasant musical ride. "Tired of Being Sorry" is worth the price of admission, but this is much more than a one song CD. From "Struggle", the opening track to "Jackie",the very last, you'll find surprises that almost defy description. Even if you don't listen closely to the lyrics, you'll still be drawn in and driven down a road that is rarely taken in today's pop music.....somewhere new!! And if you do listen to the lyrics you'll find them worthy as well. Enjoy what will be on my 2005 top ten list." Perfect sunny day, windows down music Elizabeth J. | Portland, Oregon, USA | 04/22/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "I love this album. My sister and I went together to buy it yesterday after hearing "Tired of Being Sorry" on the radio. Neither one of us knew anything about the band, but were willing to take a chance, even if there were just one or two good tracks on the album. It does not dissapoint. The first time I heard "Tired of Being Sorry" it caught my ear and reminded me of some of the great indie-pop music of the 80s. It has a great melody/chorus, as well as a raw element to the vocals. It's sad and cheerful all at once. The rest of the album is so good, with every track being completely different. I heard a bit of Beck, U2 and the Bo Deans in it. My sister was reminded of Howie Day, Luna and Ween. We both love it. (Oh, and it doesn't hurt that both of the guys are extremely hot!) :) Buy this album!!!"
