Synopsis
Album Description Rhythm/Pleasure, the debut release from Rip Rowan, is a continuous-play groove-jazz adventure. Influenced by the lounge-lizard sounds of the Supreme Beings of Leisure and the grooves of DJ Mark Farina, Rhythm/Pleasure presents a crushed-velvet atmosphere riding aloft 2 a.m. martini beats. The sound continuously transforms itself from jazz, to electronica, to trip-hop, and finally ends in an orchestral world-beat symphony. Hard to define, immediately recognizable, Rhythm/Pleasure is cooler than "lite jazz", more seductive than electronica, and too imaginitive to pass by unnoticed. Similar CDs

CD ReviewsThe Perfect Balance of Jazz and Electronica Mark | Los Angeles, CA | 09/01/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "Just got this CD and it is both smooth and groovin'. The mix of electronica and smooth jazz is just right - just when it seems like it's getting a little too electronic, it slips into jazz... just when it's getting too jazzy, it slips into ambient and back to electronica. There isn't a bad track on the record. If you just want to chill out this CD does the trick. Great for long car rides. Also the last track is a killer, it belongs on a soundtrack. Unreservedly recommended, a must-buy." Intelligent, captivating lounge music B. Hall | Little Rock, Ar | 12/27/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "This is a brilliant collection of jazz/electronica fusion. I search all over the place for good downtempo lounge music. This CD is one of the best I have ever heard in the genre. They remind me a lot of Thievery Corporation. This is definetly one you can just pop in the CD player and let it go, and that is rare for most any CD. If you like indie/instrumental/electronica/jazz, you cant really go wrong here. I highly recommend this one for your collection. The entire disc is very focused and consistent, there are no surprise tracks that seem to not belong...it flows together, the whole CD. Its like one long song. A wonderful journey indeed." Excellent modern midtempo Sarah | San Francisco, CA | 06/26/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "This is a GREAT disc. I bought this disc because I know Rip from his recording website ProRec, so I thought I would check out his work. BOY was I surprised. This CD is one part funky, one part groovy, one part jazzy, and one part sexy. It is the first choice for those laid-back-bottle-of-wine (and what-have-you) parties with a bunch of friends and some great conversation. The sample tracks don't do it justice because it is a single hour-long piece of music that needs to be heard all of the way through to be appreciated. My favorite part of the disc are tracks 7-10 taken together."
