Stunning release from a stunning lady

"I don't know the last time Rita Moreno released a solo album, but she finally did, and it was way long overdue. Musical styles on the album run the gamut of jazz, blues, latin, and swing. Posessing a lush, alto voice, Ms. Moreno is what I call a classic song stylist. Being a student of voice, I love singers who have the ability to go into the music (the melody, the lyric) and have it take over their being, their performance. To me, that's what a great interpreter does. Ms. Moreno has that in spades!!!This is a live recording of her cabaret act. Backed by a jazz combo, she opens with a lively "If Swing Goes, I Go To" and segues into a laid back, relaxed "Sunny Side of the Street". She pays tribue to Ethel Waters with "Happiness Is A Thing Called Joe". She revels in the beauty of "If I Loved You" (one of the most romantic songs ever written, in my opinion). She displays sensitivity on "Lost In His Arms". With "Gee, Baby, Ain't I Good To You", she pulls out all the stops and gets sassy with her interpretation. She sings a beautiful, lilting "El Mar" in Spanish and brings us to a party with her all stops "Brazil".Ms. Moreno does not make one wrong move on this recording. For anyone who appreciates real singers with real talent and a flair for impeccable song stylings, then this album is for you and your music library. Trust me!! This is one classy and classic album!!"

"Who knew? Rita has a style that is reminiscent of Lena Horne and bites into jazz with a healthly appetite. She growls, moans, and coos with such emotion that one wonders why she was required to dub her voice in "West Side Story."From the beginning song, she pays tribute to jazz. Then she pays tribute to New York City (with a fetching rap) as well as heartbreak in "Guess Who I Saw Today."With Rita, "Life is a Bowl of Cherries!" Let's have some more sweet and tangy fruit from her in the future!"
