"Do NOT buy this CD unless you plan on letting your other "worthy" CDs by Schubert, Mahler and the like gather dust for a bit. This series is addictive, and like potato chips- you can't have just one! There are 9 in the series, so it can get pricey. Burns went thru the Lowlands and the Highlands collecting folk tunes and poetry, and never specified instrumentation. The instrumentation in this series is eclectic- from guitar and concertina to cittern, bodhran and pipes. The singers are varied, as is the music- dealing with the conflicts of the Scots against the Brits, love, drinking etc. Highly recommend to all- Haydn and Beethoven wrote more "classical" accompaniment to many of these tunes too."
