"French-Canadian Roch (pronounced Rock) Voisine's impressive voice and pop songwriting skills earned him international (mostly Canadian and European) success during the late 1980's and throughout the 1990's. In 2000, he released his first English Christmas album "Christmas is Calling" which was followed by a Christmas tour and a TV special. I actually caught his Christmas concert in Halifax and I can tell you that Voisine is no "fixed in the mix" vocalist like so many of today's artists. The man has a voice. His live rendition of "O Holy night" was simply stunning and brought the audience to it's feet for one of three well deserved standing ovations that night. I agree with the previous reviewer, he really should do a yearly Christmas tour. As for the album itself, "Christmas is Calling" is a very solid holiday CD. All the best Christmas classics are there, plus one quite surprisingly decent original yuletide song (Christmas is calling). A new Christmas CD from a pop artist can be pretty iffy stuff, especially when they start interpreting the classics (usually messing them up) or even worse, writing their own "forgotten the first second you heard them" Christmas songs. Voisine smartly stays away from all that here. The album certainly pays tribute to the jazzy, swinging style of a Christmas Sinatra, Crosby or Martin without pretending to be either one. It's definitely the kind of CD you can throw on while you decorate the tree or when kicking back to sip on eggnog. Christmas is Calling is a welcome addition to any Xmas collection (but hey, not at $34.49 which is the price quoted here at the moment, I mean that's 1980 prices!). It gets a solid four stars out of five. And just for reference, the only holiday albums that get five stars in my books have Frank, Dino or Bing's name on them."

"Love the voice and the chosen songs. Roch has several CDs available and this was added due to hearing his other music. He has a unique and wonderful French voice and does a great job with the songs in English as well."
My very favorite Christmas CD
