Muscular, but with surprising melodic twists, this weirdo quintet hails from San Diego, where soaking up So-Cal hardcore influences is a matter of coming of age. Chunky rhythm guitars are the rule, augmented by honking sax and searing leads. It's quite an interesting mix, swinging between the wonderful, anthemic "Ditch Digger," the joyful racket of "Hairball Alley," and the all-out throb of "Sturdy Wrists." Few are able to find the balance between hardcore and melody, but Rocket from the Crypt does it. A few days ago, a friend of mine asked me what they sound like, and I couldn't give him a straight answer. Punkabilly with horns I'd say, but you can't understand until you experience the unconditional love that is Rocket from the Crypt. Why don't you have this album yet?!?" Circa:Now!
