I really like this album, from an artist whose work I normally don't generally like, this combination of songs with more of a rock sound is really good.

CD Reviews

Rod the Bod is really quite Mod
H. Walsh | Burlington, NC United States | 02/24/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I remember returning to the States after being overseas for several years. One of the first songs I heard on local radio upon returning home was "Lost In You." It really jumped out of my stereo speakers, along with rockers like "Dynamite," and "Wild Horse." I think that for Rod to really rock out, he needs to surround himself with musicians that will push him, and Andy Taylor certainly seemed to do so on this album. In fact, Andy practically incinerates his guitar on "Almost Illegal." I love the imagery in that song as well, with Rod rollin' in the hay with the farmer's daughter, and the farmer aiming to put some buckshot in the Mod One's tailfeathers. Rod's voice is in fine some on the ballads as well; his rendition of "Try A Little Tenderness" does justice to a timeless classic. Like other reviewers, I don't much feel like Rod has rocked out since this one, and I miss it. Let the Wild Horse run free indeed, Roddy!"
Crazy About Rod Stewart CBE!
Sylviastel | 12/06/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Before Rod Stewart CBE turned to the classical recording in the American songbook, Rod Stewart was singing his own songs like "Lost in You," "Forever Young," "Crazy About Her," and "My Heart Can Tell You No" in his repertoire. Very few surviving performers like Rod Stewart have not only changed the music industry but they had adapted to it's many changes and it's audiences. Rod Stewart's faithful audiences might be pushing gray hairs instead of dying it pink. As we have gotten older, so has Rod Stewart who has moved his singing into a new direction and perhaps better one too. He has matured from "Do You Think I'm Sexy" to a singer with a lot of depth and range to reach a wider audiences. This compact disc does have some favorites like the ones mentioned above. Too bad, they don't sell the videos with this CD. Rod Stewart has grown as a musical performer from doing music videos for the original MTV to serenading audiences with songs that Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra made famous. Who would have thought that Rod Stewart would be the one to have such depth in music? I didn't for sure and I'm sure some of his critics did too or maybe he had it all along but we just didn't appreciate it. Rock on, Rod."
