Original and very very good

"A fantastic record, going beyond mainstream into some very original places: interesting rhythms, angular but catchy melodies, excellent arrangements (with a great supporting cast). The short "rhythm" interludes show that you can have a "concept album" without being pretentious or silly. My only regret is that Kendrick didn't do 10 more CD's like this (though "Dance World Dance" is also very good)"
Cerebral, daring and soulful

"Rodney Kendrick does it all on this outing; he knows his
history well, but he also has the skill, daring and energy
to mix roots with vision. The music is seamless; dense,
warmly soulful rhythms interwoven with eccentric hard bop
and almost-freejazz. Dewey Redman, Graham Haynes,
Eric Wyatt, Patience Higgins and Justin Robinson solo beautifully, supported by a solid rhythm section and percussionists. Everyone digs the thematic mood of the session, tailoring their statements to support the leader's intent. The title, Last Chance for Common Sense, couldn't
be more apt for our continuing age of anxiety."
