Over a series of remarkable concept albums, the Luxembourg band Rome
has developed a totally unique poetry of longing that gives expression to a
comprehensive feeling of modern forlornness. The protagonists of this music are the
banished, hunted, despised, and misunderstood firmly in the tradition of Jerome
Reuter s declared heroes Jacques Brel, Léo Ferré, Tom Waits, and Nick Cave. Nos
Chants Perdus is inspired by world literature, and the observant listener will be
able to detect references to and quotations from Albert Camus, Marcel Proust,
Jean-Paul Sartre, and Jean Genet.
