"barroom would set the atmosphere of this album. Very dynamic, and well balanced recording. From the upbeat, driving "Blues For The West Side", to John Coltrane's "Equinox", there is a taste for everyone here. Ronnie is absolutely brilliant, and this recording shows his honesty and sensitivity to the blues. Not out to emulate, he creates his own voice, and this is a great starter for new fans as well.Also recommend:"Blues Guitar Virtuoso Live In Europe""

Mellow, night time, jazzy blues instrumentals

"Ronnie Earl is a really great guitar player - always tasteful, always precise, yet not at all mechanical sounding. This is a terrific example of what he's capable of producing with just a small combo. The material runs the gamut from straight mellow blues to uptempo jazz blowing, although I suspect only guitar players will find it an album to listen to intently. For others, it's a great disc to have in the changer for your next intimate late night party. Note to Ronnie: if this had a few vocals by Kim Wilson or Sugar Ray Norcia on it, I think it would have been perfect."

"Late night stuff... yes... but it's legal. Mr. Earl and his Broadcasters are a talented lot of blues-smiths. Katz's B3 just slithers around in the background like a big cat and raises its head (all fangs) when you least expect it.. quite stunning! 'Kansas City Monarch' is the killer track, and that alone is worth it (for me). Joe Harley's production and Bernie Grundman's mastering needs a mention for the presence and organic quality of the sound that is offered here.For those who shake but don't stir their drinks, try out a similar formula dished out on "Blues Union" with Joe Beard (vocals/guitar)."
